Lens Impression
レンズの刻印によると、Vallantinヴァランタンは1840年から1856年までルルブールの工房で監督者（職長）として働いていており、その後独立して自分の工房を開いたようです。ダゴスティーニの本では、彼はルルブール在籍中から自ら精密な調整を行ったレンズに自分の名前を刻印したとも読み取れるのですが、このレンズ刻印の印象では、ルルブールを退社し自らの工房を立ち上げたのちに、その経歴を刻印したように思えます。
今回のレンズのとても面白い点は、刻印のLEREBOURSの前の敬称？がMRではなく、MRSになっている点です。そもそもなぜこの敬称が、フランス語のM.（Monsieur）や
Mme.(Madame)ではなく、MR,MRSなのかわかりません。
このレンズの製造年代は不明ですが、レンズの刻印とNo580から類推すると、1858年ごろと推定するのが妥当と思われます。
描写は典型的なペッツバールのもので、6ｘ7cmでの撮影ではもう少し中央部の特徴に支配されるかと思いましたが、作例を見ると、しっかりと周辺に像面湾曲の影響がでていますね。
Judging from its engraved characters, Vallantin had been working at the
Atelier of Lerebours as a foreman from 1840 to 1856, and he opened the
independent Atelier after that period. From the book of Dagostini, I could
read he engraved his own name proudly on Lenses which he made fine tuning,
but I estimate he put such engraved characters after opening his own Atelier
to indicate his brilliant careers.
The very interesting point of this particular lens, the honorific title
of Lerebours is not MR but MRS. I can not find the reason of this difference
of title.
The production year of this lens is not certain. I could estimate 1858from
the engraved characters and its number 580.
The description of this lens is typical Petzval. I estimated more stable expression because 6x7 cm film does not use full image circle of this Petzval lens.
But I found the definite Curvature of Field aberration around peripheral
area.
